Microsoft Availability Extended for another 5 months
The Redmond’s best selling OS is still going strong
Due to the high demand and feedback, Microsoft is extending sales of Windows XP among OEM and retail channels for an additional five months, till June 30, 2008. Also, the sale of Starter Edition, aiming emerging low-cost PC market, will extend till June 30, 2010.
The reason, as stated by Microsoft vice president, Mike Nash, “While we’ve been pleased with the positive response we’ve seen and heard from customers using Windows Vista, there are some customers who need a little more time to make the switch to Windows Vista.”
“Windows Vista will be the fastest selling operating system in our history. And while that’s gratifying on one level when you consider all the architectural changes we introduced, it also suggests we’ve done a lot of things right in delivering value to our customers.” However, Nash admitted, “…maybe we were a little ambitious to think that we would need to make Windows XP available for only a year after the release of Windows Vista.”
The new OS, Windows Vista, has sold over 60 million licenses as of this summer. However, Microsoft also decided to offer OEMs the option of downgrading from Vista to XP recently.
