8800GT First review

Amazing performance, beats 8800GTS 640M as well as HD2900XT 1GB in almost all the tests.

New Geforce 8800GT features 112 stream processors each individually clocked at blazing fast 1.5GHz and an impressive 256 bit frame buffer interface running at 900Mhz.

Enhanced HD Playback Performance

The new 8800GT will feature hardware H264 and VC-1 acceleration, as you can find in current 8600/8500/8400 series, which manages to fulfill the lackiness in 8800GTX/GTS.

Lower Power Consumption

The TDP(thermal design power) of 8800GT is 110W, lower than 147W of GTS and 177W of GTX, and here is the test results. Please note that the its the whole system power consumption, not the video card.

Conclusion

In the test, 8800GT 512MB(expected MSRP: $250) beats 8800GTS 640M(street price $350) in every single test, except for PT Boats and Company of Heroes with 4xAA. Compare to HD2900XT(street price around $500), the 1GB video rams seem not give ATI much benefits, which only leads in HL2 EP2 and Company of Heroes without antialiasing.

For the price, its way out of our exception and should be the best value high-end gaming card in the next few months.
